Trackbacks, Pingbacks and Pings

Hi. I installed WordPress a couple of weeks ago. I enjoy using it and its been fun and easy to use so far (apart from finding things in the administrator back end since the new version).

I need some help understanding the whole trackback & pingback thing.
I have read through the documentation and now (kind-of) understand the concept of them.

What I don’t get is how to use them and the difference between a pingback and a ping.
