Hello @infernoprime I’m not sure what you mean by “plugin for my downloads”. Matomo will count link clicks to certain files, PDFs, archives, etc. as downloads and display those metrics in the Downloads report (see https://demo.matomo.cloud/index.php?module=CoreHome&action=index&idSite=1&period=day&date=yesterday#?idSite=1&period=day&date=yesterday&category=General_Actions&subcategory=General_Downloads for an example). If this isn’t what you meant, can you tell me what plugin you are referring to?
I am sorry. I am using download manager by w3eden to handle my downloads. But I still want to know if matomo track when users click on a download link as well.
@infernoprime is this the plugin you are using https://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/?
Matomo will automatically track a download if the URL ends in a specific extension. It will also track a download if the link has a specific CSS class (which can be configured via the JavaScript tracking code). (For more information, see https://matomo.org/faq/new-to-matomo/faq_47/.)
If you’re using the WP Download Manager plugin I linked above, I think you would have to set the “Set CSS classes to be treated as downloads” option in Matomo Analytics > Settings > Tracking > Settings for Auto Tracking Mode to wpdm-download-link. If the download manager plugin were to change the CSS class they add to their download links you’d need to make the same change to that setting.
Does this answer your question?
I will look into it and post back.
Is that alright?
Yes that’s fine. This issue will stay open, though I may close it after a week or so. If that happens, you should still be able to comment here.
