• Hi there! I am transferring my wordpress.com site here to ww.wp.xz.cn. I am with bluehost, and following the step by step tutorial. I have installed wordpress, then I exported the xml file from wordpress.com with “all content,” then downloaded the import plugin, and then went to tools-import and selected my xml file. What is happening is that after taking forever, I am seeing no posts, no pages, but a few images and 4 comments in my dashboard sections. I was on the phone with Bluehost for 2 hours. The reinstalled wordpress and tried a million things to no avail. It seems that if I import my file over and over, each time a few new images come in. But it should just all come in at once. Other than taking hours on end to keep importing and seeing if eventually everything comes in, any other suggestions on what may be going wrong?? Help! I don’t know much about any of this but it didn’t seem that hard to do on my own and I know many people that have done it with no problem.

I still have my wordpress.com site active, I am waiting for my domain transfer to go through from go daddy to bluehost and to get this working before I point my current site to this one…

I have heard before of BlueHost installs running out of memory allocated to PHP during the import.

Here are three ways to increase PHP’s memory allocation:

    1. If you can edit or override the system php.ini file, increase the memory limit. For example, memory_limit = 128M

    2. If you cannot edit or override the system php.ini file, add php_value memory_limit 128M to your .htaccess file.

    3. If neither of these work, it’s time to ask your hosting provider to temporarily increase PHP’s memory allocation on your account. Keep in mind that most decent hosting providers allocate 32 MB to PHP under each account, and most decent hosting providers allow users to temporarily increase the memory allocation. If your hosting provider won’t accommodate you, perhaps it’s time to find a new hosting provider.

(in the above examples, the limit is set to 128MB)

Hi James! Thanks for the post. I have already asked them to increase my limit and they have. After 4 hours with their tech support team I decided to pay to have an expert do the transfer…for some reason this easy task had so many issues. Even their tech was stumped, and they tried just about everything to help fix it. Thank you for your reply!!

Were they able to get you set up in the end?

Not yet. I’m still talking to them to make sure they can do all I want for what I’m paying. My main issue is that I took the Twenty Fourteen theme and changed a ton using CSS to give it the look I want. But I got a lot of help from the WordPress.com staff because I don’t know CSS really. I don’t want to lose all my work. So in trying to find a way to have it transfer over or find someone I can pay to do it correctly. I really just want my current site just like it looks and functions to be put on the .org side… Make sense?

Your CSS changes at WordPress.com can by copy/pasted over to the Custom CSS module on your ww.wp.xz.cn site if you’re using the Jetpack plugin: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/jetpack/

Oh really?!! I’m planking on installing jetpack as that’s how I can transfer my stats and subscribers. Where do I find the place to paste it on my .org dashboard??

    Planning!! Ugh. Autocorrect.

It will be under Appearance -> Custom CSS once you activate Jetpack’s Custom CSS module.

Awesome. Thanks! And it should keep all the changes I made so my site looks the same on the .org side??

    Yes, it definitely should. 🙂

Oh great. Ok, I’ll give it a try if the transfer doesn’t take care of it! Thanks so much for your help!
