• Hello!

I am in the middle of deciding a new theme to replace the sadly outdated and no longer supported GamePress-R theme that I’ve used for years, but have discovered a small hitch.

GamePress-R had four TinyMCE functions that were built-in as part of the theme – which includes tabbed content, and they don’t transfer to another theme. Since they don’t transfer, where there should be tabs, it’s now just the shortcode showing up.

My site is currently still using GamePress-R, and you can see an example of the Tabs properly working on this page:
    http://game-rave.com/?p=2008

The shortcode that the Tabs button adds to the page is:

    [tabs tab1="Tab 1" tab2="Tab 2" tab3="Tab 3"]

    [tab]Tab content 1[/tab]
    [tab]Tab content 2[/tab]
    [tab]Tab content 3[/tab]

    [/tabs]

Which you can add more to or subtract from as needed. After not being able to find a plug-in that uses this same short code, and failing extremely hard at trying to learn how to re-create it myself for the next theme, I have three questions:

    1. Is there a way to just move specific folders / files over to the new theme and it’ll work?
    2. If no, is there a recommended teaching tool to make it? As mentioned, I have been using an off-site dummy wordpress install to try and re-make it myself for the next themes going forward, but I have broken that poor off-site version in every conceivable way trying to learn to code it myself. 🙁
    3. Can it be coded as a plug-in, so I can take it with me where ever I theme-to next? I would have to manually edit over 200+ pages with a different tab plug-in if I can’t sort this mess out.

Thank you in advance, I really do appreciate it.
    Jason

  • You (or someone that knows code) should be able to take the code from the theme and put it into a plugin, so it can be used with any theme. This is not just the editor button or the shortcode function, but the loading of the styles that make the tabs work.
There are plugins to provide this already, though. If they use a different shortcode name, you could either write a small shortcode to call the other one, or use a Search/Replace plugin on your database to rename the existing shortcodes.
