where’s the crying emoticon
is it as bad as it looks?
No. It’s can be completed in under 5 mins.
ok thanks. i’ve another question don’t go lol
i created a SecureWebdisk via cPanel so i can get access to all my files.
all my files for both sites are in the ‘www’ directory (inc the WP install)
i’ll be creating lots or links on the WP site to files in this directory
when i change the domain will that affect anything or am i looking at this correctly
is the domain and files / folders etc seperate?
i’m just scared i make the whole site and when i transfer none of the links work
thanks

No no.
Are the WordPress files in the folder blueguitarV2 under www? If so, all you have to do is change the URLs.
Have you see http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_Within_Your_Site ? If everything is on the same server, it’s pretty easy.
i’ll have a read thanks π
basically this is my current site
http://www.blueguitar.info/
and here is the WP site
http://blueguit.tsohost.co.uk/blueguitarV2/
that blueguitarV2 folder is within the ‘www’ folder
If your wordpress site is on a different hosting package you’ll have to move the site to your main host.
http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_to_a_New_Server
This generally involves exporting your wordpress content to an xml file and then importing this file to the live site. You also have to copy over your theme and reinstall any plugins you use.
miocene22, I’m 99% sure that http://blueguit.tsohost.co.uk/blueguitarV2/ is an ALIAS for http://www.blueguitar.info/blueguitarV2 – If you go to the latter, you see a weird version of the former
Okay, then you SHOULD be able to just change the URLs to http://www.blueguitar.info/blueguitarV2 for starters.
If THAT works, then probably the easiest thing would be this:
Change the Site and Home URLS of http://blueguit.tsohost.co.uk/blueguitarV2/ to http://www.blueguitar.info/ – At this point you will LOSE your blueguitarV2 site. That’s okay. DON’T panic π
Rename www/wp-config.php to www/wp-config.php.old
COPY www/blueguitarV2/wp-config.php to www/wp-config.php
COPY www/blueguitarV2/wp-content/theme/ to www/wp-content/theme/
And that should be it. You may need to re-save the permalinks, but you should be good.
yikes! ok i think i got that π
i might do that pretty soon and just update the site as i go along. at least i’ll have the hard part over.
thanks again
hi ipstenu
i’m almost ready to transfer to my new WP site, currently here: http://blueguit.tsohost.co.uk/blueguitarV2 with your guidance above π
had another question. what about my old website http://www.blueguitar.info do i need to deactivate that?
or do i just move all the files for it out of the www folder? (its an old site built with dreamweaver). or will changing the URL for my WP to http://www.blueguitar.info overwrite the old site?
thanks

cant get to my WP dashboard or anything π
i’ll just give you access to my ftp to be honest, desperate
