1. Name of plugin.
2. What the “strange error” is.

I didn’t say anything about support. You should have read the Requirements:
” 1. cURL should be installed in your system and available from PHP. Most systems have it installed and enabled by default. “
And now compare it with your error message:
“CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION cannot be activated when in safe_mode or…”
The plugin has previously worked for two years and I’ve not done anything with the PHP, as I’m a novice user and wouldn’t know how… Do you think the CURL thing would be simple for a newbie like me to deal with?

No. That’s a server issue. Hosts are changing setup, software etc. more often than you’d ever imagine.
Ask your host what did they change around the time when it stopped working.
