Translation problem

In Canada, the French word for “email” is “courriel,” while in France it’s ”e-mail.” I modified (with Poedit) the fr_FR file coming with the plugin, but my contact form and its settings still indicate “e-mail.”
I created a fr_CA file and put it in the plugin’s language folder, to no avail. Finally I put the fr_CA file in my child-theme after creating three nested folders (plugins > clean-and-simple-contact-form-by-meg-nicholas > languages) to mimic the plugin structure. But that doesn’t work either.
