With plain WP install Trash is not emptied automatically,
unless you press a button or some plugin does that for you (Bulk WP optimization plugins can flush spam, trash, among other clean ups)
Thanks @fierevere is there somewhere in the standard settings I might have changed?

You might have defined this constant in wp-config.php (1 is example number of days)
there are no other settings with plain WP, without additional plugins installed which may affect Trash
Hmm, how strange. I haven’t done anything like that. I wonder where the posts could have gone.
Just following up to see if anyone else has any ideas as to where these posts might have gone / could be?
