Trouble Getting Accurate USPS Rates

a) customers are getting incorrect rates at checkout. rates appear to be affected by changing weights & dimensions of the product – but can’t match anything. for example, a USPS Priority Mail box type

b) I seem to be unable to obtain info from the debug mode. when “Enable debug mode (Enable shipping debug mode to show matching shipping zones and to bypass shipping rate cache)” is checked, there appears to be no change to the cart page
