    Hello,

I’m having trouble importing a csv file. This csv file is a backup of the guestbook on my old website, exported from a webhosting platform with the following options: utf-8, comma as seperator, columns enclosed and escaped with “, column names in the first row.

I keep having the notification that the csv file is not compatible to current version of Gwolle GB. I have looked up posts from other people with the same problems, but I haven’t quite found the solution for me yet. Can you please help me with this issue?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Linh,
Not sure what seems to be wrong.
If you want, you can send the CSV by email to [email protected] then I can take a look.

Thank you for the quick reply. I’ve sent you a mail with the CSV.

    Hi Linh,
That is quite an interesting CSV 🙂
I don’t know where to start in fixing it to be compatible.

You can look here for an example of an export that should import easily:
    https://plugins.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/browser/gwolle-gb/trunk/docs/import_example

You can see there is a header with the name of the fields, and for the rest one line per entry/message.

Is it possible for you to make a better export?
Then it might be possible to move data around. Open the example.csv in LibreOffice Calc, and your hopefully better csv too, and then maybe you can make it similar as the example, or move all data to the example.

I do expect it to be a slow and tedious job, if this is the best export you can do.
Maybe doing a database export of the database table might even be easier. You could use PHPmyadmin for that.
I do not dare to offer making a compatible import of this for a small fee, it is too different and quite messed up.

Thank you for having looked into the problem. I deleted all the spams and unnecessary fields in my csv, then moved the rest of the csv to your example, and it worked! I think the biggest problem might have been that the names of the fields in my header did not match with the names recognizable by Gwolle.

    Hi Linh,

    Good that you managed.

    Have a good week.
