• I suspect I am missing something completely obvious. I’ve searched the forums but this specific issue doesn’t seem to be covered.

I am using WordPress online and want to set it up locally for offline work. I understand I need to bring the files and the database into the local site. (Yes, I’m a newbie.)

I am on a Mac, I installed MAMP, downloaded my files (but not the database) into the /MAMP/hpdocs directory, and the Mamp site had content, but none of my images, formatting, etc. (I’m feeling good!)

I exported the database and imported it into a database called “test” using MyPhpAdmin. I checked the wp-config.php file and it has the correct database name.

I opened the local web site, and the url switches from /localhost:8888 to /localhost, and I get the Apache Web installation page. (Was I installing Apache?) It says “Seeing this instead of the website you expected? This page is here because the site administrator has changed the configuration of this web server.”

Did I change the configuration of the server?

Or – bottom line, how the heck can I get my local site to look like it does online? Maybe I’m completely in left field…
