• Honestly I have no idea what version of wp i’m using. Ok viewed some tutorials in youtube about changing colour of website. Great fantastic tutorials. Copied it to the letter css etc……It never works or changes color, I sit there for hours trying to change the color etc…and txt too. 24hrs later i’ll go into my website and it’s all changed, and a bit of a shambles to. due to experimenting with css and seeing that nothings changed on my website when i update. i just put colors in that i don’t really want to see what happens and if it worked. New to all this you see. It doesnt work until 24 hrs later and it’s got the colors I didn’t want which I embedded and awwww it’s just frustrating. Can anyone help me about this pls?????????? I spend hours on the blummin thing to try to get it to work. I go to css in styling under theme options to paste from fire bug which never works for me and like i said i followed it to the letter.
so I go to editor under appearances and scroll through the css code there to implement changing the colors, txt etc which is a long grueling process because I go through the whole code thing and i dont know if my websites changed coz it won’t show me when i go to view the site. And so i’m scrolling through the css just changing the color with the colour codes and using the color picker. but i dont know css and i dont know what it is that i am actually changing coz as i mentioned previous, when i update my sites still the same.Look sorry this is sooo long you kind person/people that reply to this. I really appreciate you for your wonderful help thankyou. Gosh i hope this makes sense…..

    Cheers

  • Are you clearing any and all caches after making changes? Stylesheets can be saved by your browser or server. Making random changes will end up putting lots of unwanted styles in your CSS – so that’s probably not a good way to go about it. You should be using a child theme or custom CSS option or plug-in — so that your changes are not lost when your theme is updated. That will also make it much easier to keep track of what you have changed.

If you have specific questions, a link to your site will be necessary.

    Hello,

It’s been sometime since I have been near the internet at all. But thankyou very much for getting back to me. I really appreciate it ta. I have just cleared the cache history thing as you explained above. The theme I’ve used is blackbird. this I got from youtube as well as a video tutorial to learn all these different things to the theme. I’m very new and my site looks pretty good, well so I think, and I don’t want to use another theme but thanks. I will keep you up to date to let you know if it has worked.

Thanks again for your help, cheers.

    Hi

its me again. I don’t know whats happened but it still isnt working. I have no idea what the hangs going on. Should I download the css manager plugin? Or the css plus plugin? There’s no tutorial for the css plugin except to read for miles which I don’t like, I prefer a video tutorial. Saves time. Your help once again will be appreciated, or whoever else can help me with this. thanks

Okay, well I would definitely suggest using a Custom CSS plugin — that way your changes won’t get erased when you update the theme (that was the point of a child theme — it’s not using a different theme – just sets up your current one so you can make changes safely). Once you do the plugin, then replace the style.css file in your theme with a new one (download to your computer and replace via FTP) — because if you’ve made changes they should be in the custom CSS. That will also clear out any problems you’ve inadvertently caused.

Like I said, you’ll really need to post a link to your site and specific examples of what is not working in order for anyone to help. General, “it’s not working” doesn’t give us much to work with :).

    These are both good options:

    Hi WPyogi,

YaaaaaaY! It worked!!!! I can’t believe it. OH that took forever……
I am so relieved…….Honestly I could’nt change the color to this certain one, well alot of them actually, but especially this one…Look you’ve NO idea how elated I am. I got that bugger. That was soooo difficult. It’s the ‘My Custom Css’. You sent the link.

What a GREAT help you are.
