We’re having recurring trouble with some images across our site not properly being optimized for Chrome and render broken. The images are fine in Firefox. I haven’t found a pattern, and turning off image optimizing (or excluding images, as I’ve done a few times) solves the problem.

Help?!

Can you try disabling the AVIF option in Settings -> Autoptimize -> Images wmhartl ?

thanks for the feedback, I’ll check in with Shortpixel (which is the service AO uses for image optimization) if there is a known issue with (some) AVIF file(s) in Chrome.

the issue was a regression in the AVIF encoder, which was updated in the meantime wmhartl, but as the CDN would still have the old (buggy) AVIF’s, you’ll have to follow the guidelines in https://help.shortpixel.com/article/247-how-to-flush-cdn-cache-for-autoptimize to ensure correct AVIF’s are generated & served.
