Two Factor Authentication does not work for me

    I today installed the two factor authentication for my WP account. i configured it to use google authenticator and logged out to make sure that it was working. i am self hosted. i used the WP log in page to enter my WP account. i enter my username and password and the 2FA prompt comes up. i enter the code however i get directed to another page that gives me an error that says “error: invalid email address”.

    before i installed the plug in, i had no issues in logging in with my email address and password. after i installed the plug in, i can no longer log in with my email address and password.

    Is your login itself an email address, which does not equal the account email address? I have a suspicion that possibly the plugin has trouble if your login (i.e. username) looks like an email address, but is different to the account email address.

    You can verify that by logging in (after deactivating the plugin of course) and looking at the profile page, or alternatively in the WP database in the users table.

    my wp username is an email address. my wp account email address is a different email address from my username email address.

    how can i resolve this problem and can i use the 2FA?

    got it to work. i changed my password completely

    Hi,

    Glad you got it working!

    So – did the username which had the format of an email address match the email address of the owner of a different account in the same WP install? Looking at the code, I think that will confuse the plugin.
