• You could have at least provided us with an option on whether or not we want to use Gutenberg or simply stick to the old editor. That’s instead of forcing Gutenberg into our interface knowing that we need to learn how to use it. We can learn new things, and it is common knowledge that change can be initially met with resistance. But not giving us time to tinker with a new thing while making the old thing still available? That’s a blow to our productivity and our efficiency.

I’ve been used to WPBakery, and right now from what I’ve seen, I can tell that it’s way better than Gutenberg. Now, I’d have to download the Classic Editor plugin – an extra step that would have been avoided if you didn’t feel it necessary to fix something that’s not broken.

Gutenberg was announced since 2017 and has been available in usable form since early 2018. Here’s a better account of it:

Maybe you don’t follow WordPress news and announcements.

Orlando, the problem is most people do not look at the announcements. People log on, go straight to the area they wish to go in WP and never check because its not important to them. As long as they can quickly edit/create a page for their site that’s all they care about. When they suddenly have to take a couple of hours, or go looking for ‘documentation’ its not easy, its not quick, and it wastes peoples’ time.

I totally understand your point, but mine is that ignorance is no excuse.

Well, in my book WordPress is famous for its 5-minutes-installation and the relatively intuitive dashboard. For Gutenberg even an experienced pro needs the documentation or the support forum. If this is ignorance, than I profoundly misunderstood the concept of WordPress.

    Hiya,

I’m going to step in here, as I can see this going downhill soon if not.

Gutenberg is a big change, and not everyone knew of it ahead of time (many agencies, hosts etc actively blocked the callout informing users on the upcoming changes and how to test it early after all).

I think we’re doing a good job at improving it based on feedback with every release, and for the most part, things are looking good (given the amount of users we have, and how many are actively looking for help with it, it is lower by an order of magnitude from what I had expected and mentally prepared for).

That said, saying it’s unintuitive doesn’t give us much to work on, if you are experiencing usability issues with the new editor I strongly urge you to either create a new topic detailing the troubles you are encountering, or for those who are so inclined, raising a Github issue directly at https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/

As mentioned, I worry that this thread might go down hill, so I’m going to close it, as it’s another users review after all. The original reviewer can freely update their review at any time regardless.
