Two price fields and two description fields for variable products
-
Hello!
All of my variable products are experiencing the same issue – when I switch between variations, instead of the main price and description fields updating at the top, two new fields appear below the variations.
In other words, what happens is that on the product page, when switching variations, I end up with two price fields and two description fields, instead of just updating the main ones.
I tested this with a different theme, contacted my theme’s support, and they redirected me to WooCommerce.
My question is: how can I fix this so that the main price and description fields are updated, and no additional fields appear? Also, where might this issue be coming from?
Thank you!

Hi there!
Thank you for providing such a clear description of the issue you’re facing with your variable products. I understand how confusing it is when switching variations leads to duplicate price and description fields instead of updating the existing ones.
I tried to replicate the issue on your site, but I wasn’t able to see any additional fields. The price and description appear to be updating correctly, as shown in this recording:
👉 https://go.screenpal.com/watch/cTi2banlHjLJust to confirm — has the issue been resolved on your end?
If not, could you please create a video recording to show exactly what you’re experiencing? For video, you may use https://loom.com. The more details we have, the more accurately we can assist you.Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time and for your willingness to help.Actually, in your videos, the issues I described are clearly visible – under the name “Купа Саня цветна” there’s a price shown: 1.20, and below it, there’s a description. Then, there are two dropdown menus for selecting variations.
The problem is that the main price above, 1.20, is the price of only the first product in the variations. But when we select other product variations from the dropdown menus, for some reason two additional fields appear below the dropdowns, showing a second price and a second description. These change according to the selected variations, which is great.
But why doesn’t the main price (1.20) and the main description above change as well? Instead, as seen in the video, we end up with two different prices and two different descriptions, where the ones at the top remain static.
What we’re aiming for is to have only the main price and description be dynamic, changing based on the selected product variations, and to remove the two additional fields below.
In other words, the changes in price and description should occur in the fields above the dropdown menus, where it currently says 1.20, and not as extra fields below the dropdowns.
Thank you again!
Hi @bulplast,
Thank you for the clarification and for reaching out. I’ve watched the video shared by my colleague, but I’m not seeing the issue you’re referring to.
To better understand what you mean, could you please share a screen recording from your end showing the issue directly? Be sure to point out the extra field or box you mentioned so we can take a closer look.
Here’s a link to the recording. It shows exactly the same as in your video. I highlight with the mouse the two prices on the screen, as well as the two descriptions and when they appear. – https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LzL9oRANG1mi6KKCB4H6sL322s0LVrks/view?usp=sharing
Hi @bulplast,
Thank you for sharing the video. Could you please go to All Products > Edit one of your variable products, then click on the Variations tab, open one of the variations, and share a full screenshot of that section showing the description field?
Hi @bulplast,
Thank you for getting back. Seems my explanation was not quite clear. I’ll explain again below.
Please go to Products > Edit one of your variable products, then click on the Variations tab (not Attributes). Expand one of the variations and share a screenshot that clearly shows all the fields within that variation, including the description field, as shown in the example screenshot below.

Yes, that’s exactly what I already sent in the third screenshot. I’m sending it again! Please make sure to check all the screenshots before getting back to me. Thank you.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dN4tkPkY2c0glOl4Osj3nxLLvxqnjXzI/view?usp=sharing@bulplast I just checked the links again, and it looks like multiple links were combined into one.
From what I can see, you’ve added a description for each variation, as shown here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C_bIIlXtoKxrGiu4cpqlOakIzfqO25bf/view
And there’s also a short product description set for the main product:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DSqPW2w9W5_qoI2ghEkUziRpOdbSVTlr/view
This explains why you’re seeing two descriptions — by default, the main product’s short description is always shown, and when a variation is selected, its description also appears, as shown in the screenshot below.

Thank you so much for your assistance!
The thing is, I uploaded all the products using a CSV file that only included a short description column, not a description column. So I have no idea why or how both description fields ended up being filled like that. Finally, may I ask if you have any suggestions on how to fix this in my database?
For example, would it help if I created a description column and left out the short description?Hi @bulplast,
Thank you for getting back. The most effective way to handle this is by using the WP All Export plugin. This tool allows you to export all your product data, including the individual variation descriptions (stored as _variation_description).
Once exported, you can open the CSV file in Google Sheets or Excel and simply clear the values under the _variation_description column for the variations you want to remove the description from.
After making your changes, you can import the updated file back into your site using the WP All Import plugin. It will match the variations and update them accordingly based on unique identifiers like the product ID or SKU.
However, before doing this on your live site, it’s very important to either:
- Create a full backup, or
- Test the process first on a staging or cloned version of your site, just to be sure everything works as expected and no data gets overwritten unintentionally.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out.
Hi @bulplast, we haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us here or start a new thread.
We’d appreciate it if you could take a few moments to review the WooCommerce plugin using the link here: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/plugin/woocommerce/reviews/#new-post.
