    You are not doing anything wrong. As it turns out, the Type menu is not available when RPS Image Gallery is active. It is a feature that is made available by the installation of the Jetpack plugin, which brings many of the WordPress.com hosted site features to self hosted installations of WordPress. Once enabled and connected to WordPress.com, you should see the Type menu appear. A couple of the Jetpack features including Carousel and Tiled Galleries, when activated, cause the Type menu to disappear as well. However, since they also override the gallery shortcode just like RPS Image Gallery does, they are not compatible with one another.

    If you are wanting to transform the image grid, let’s say into circles instead of squares, you can do so through the use of CSS. There is another Jetpack feature called Custom CSS that should do the trick. Go to Jetpack > Custom CSS and click the Configure button. Paste the following CSS into the editor and save it. All your gallery grid images will be displayed as circles.

    .rps-image-gallery .gallery-icon img {
    -webkit-border-radius: 100%;
    -moz-border-radius: 100%;
    border-radius: 100%;
    }
