I’ve tried to follow the codex instructions for an MT/WP conversion. Using my ftp program & notepad, I changed the import-mt.php file by adding the .txt file name to the code as the instructions stated. I made sure the txt file was encoded with utf 8 as advised. The codex says to call the txt file “import” but I called it “wp.” That shouldn’t make a diff. should it?

Since the codex does not make clear which folder the .txt file needs to be uploaded to, I uploaded it to the public html folder & to the wp-admin folder. Should it go into a diff. folder? When I go to this URL ( http://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/ ) I don’t see the posts.

I should add that my domain name is still pointing to my Typepad site since I want to work on my WP site & get it right BEFORE I point my domain to my WP host.

So I’ve configured something wrong & don’t have a clue what it is. I’d be grateful for suggestions on how to fix this.

It’s sad it has to come to that. But you can try what I said.

BTW, thanks for giving it your all in trying to help me. I appreciate that.

I just removed the WP installation using fantastico. But I can’t install a new one because the only domain name that bluehost is allowing me to use is the domain name to which my blog is currently pointing. If I use that then I end up the same place I was earlier.

What a mess. I’ll have to wait till tomorrow to unravel this.

It pays to get a webhost with 24/7 support (which bluehost doesn’t have–UGH!).

You can create a subdomain and install it there.

With my webhost’s help I succeeded in getting into my WP admin panel. I changed the URLs listed there from my domain name to my bluehost url (see below).

I again tried importing the import.txt file & nothing happens. Still no posts. There’s still something wrong & I don’t know what it is.

“You can create a subdomain and install it there.”

Do you mean a subdomain of bluehost or a subdomain of my own domain, richardsilverstein.com? If you mean the latter, if this domain is now pointing at my Typepad blog how can you point a subdomain to a different host (bluehost/WP)?
