@iamklaus In order to investigate further can you temporarily change your WordPress “WordPress Address (URL)” and “Site Address (URL)” from your general settings temporarily during setup? After doing so please attempt to connect and setup from a browser incognito window.
@iamklaus I have the same problem with multiple German sites which are using an umlaut in their domain name. Although I don’t get a 404 error…

When I click “Allow”, but blue button just turns grey and after that nothing happens.
@iamklaus Are you able to proceed if you remove the umlaut in your “Site Address (URL)” from the WordPress general settings dashboard?
FYI: in my case there are no umlauts in both WordPress and Site Address URL, for all websites with international domains that have trouble connecting. They’re converted to xn-_______.de.
@danielbenjamins Thanks for the info, we will continue testing, there is an open GitHub issue you can keep track of below:
https://github.com/google/site-kit-wp/issues/794
we’ve just released version 1.1.0 and advise updating. While we’re still addressing your particular issue for a permanent fix. We’ll keep you updated on the progress of the issue being resolved.
Updated yesterday and the problem is still there. Reported on Github yesterday as well.
@iamklaus & @danielbenjamins – Thanks for reporting this issue. It should be resolved in the latest release of the plugin, can you please give this another test and let us know the results?
@iamklaus have you had a chance to update to the latest version? We believe it should resolve the issue you experienced.
Hey there,
many thanks, with the latest update everything works very well. I started the installation process from scratch and everything worked very smooth.
Cheers,
Klaus
@iamklaus Thanks for the update, great to hear it’s finally resolve. Be sure to leave the plugin feedback.
Please excuse my dumb question regarding “Umlaute”, but I am a layman:
If I want to make a reservation for schwerhörige.wordpress.com, do I have to make a reservation for xn--schwerhrige-xfb.wordpress.com???
I ask this because my request for schwerhörige.wordpress.com is being processed wrongly by WordPress, WordPress converts my request into schwerhoerige947930809.wordpress.com .
I would be grateful for advice.
Kind regards from Switzerland,
Mirjam
Hi Mirjam,
