Un-attach post image attachments

    I would like to suggest a feature that should be in the core already from the first version and that is to be able to un-attach images attached to a post. Because currently in order somehow edit a gallery, you need to remove the images directly from media library, which just feels kinda dirty and not efficient.

    For example, this would be really helpful when creating a gallery system with custom post type.

    Thanks, I will try that one out, but this should be built in functionality. Is this the right forum to suggest a functionality or should I post somewhere else?

    It’s the right place, but it’s not going to be included. If you attach the same image to a second post, it becomes only attached to that post.

    Yeah but I would like to be able to modify the attachments in a post. Lets say I want to remove 1 image from the gallery, but I dont want to delete it completely, because I might use it for something else later. Adding new images usually works, when you just add media and close the window.

    It’s the right place, but it’s not going to be included. If you attach the same image to a second post, it becomes only attached to that post.

    This is a most disappointing state of affairs. The ability to track images to posts/pages is not a whimsical thing; it is a basic, necessary feature of a Media Library. And there are any number of ways that this could be done.

    Exactly, I dont understand how nobody from the dev team, or anyone at all thought about that.
