• I created all my tables using “Simple Tables” because the other option is to create “Data Tables” where it is supposed to be linked to an existing data source. I do not have any data to be linked to and all my tables are created with new data. Now, when I want to export my tables as local backup, I can’t do it because exporting of tables dose not exist for “Simple Tables”.

This does not make sense at all. Why does exporting of tables exist for data tables but not simple tables? What am I supposed to do when creating tables with fresh data and still be able to export it? Go do it in Excel, then import the file? Why should I have to take an extra step to create a table in WordPress when other table plugins can export all kinds of tables into csv and excel? This is a very bad plugin design which is illogical to say the least. Furthermore, in the “Table Tools” documentation, there was no mention at all that it does not exist for simple tables. I watched the whole tutorial video and it took me at least 30 minutes of searching before I realized that the function is missing for simple tables.

Going to delete this plugin for the extremely horrendous design not to allow exporting of simple tables. I need to spend days to recreate all my tables in other plugins but it is worth it to stop creating tables with this atrocious export design plugin so that it will not lead to even more headaches in future.

For those who are thinking of using this awful plugin, hope you can see this review and judge for yourself whether you want to use it.

    Hello there.

We’re sorry to hear you won’t be using wpDataTables Lite anymore and we’re sorry to hear you went through all the trouble creating the tables without being able to export them.

As mentioned in our documentation, these tables are not saved in the database like manual tables, but instead, their data is stored in the database table wp_wpdatatables_rows. For this reason, at the moment, it’s not possible to use Table Tools with Simple Tables, but we will, of course, work on that in the future. All your data is still secure, though, in your WordPress database, so unless you disable the “Prevent deleting database tables” option in wpDataTables settings, even if you delete the plugin, your tables will remain in your database, and they will be safe.

We apologize for not mentioning that table tools are not available in Simple tables in our documentation, but that’s been fixed now, thank you for pointing that out. On the other hand, the yellow notice box below the table states that “There is no data functionality like front-end editing, sorting, filtering, search, export or pagination in this table type”.

Once again, we’re sorry to hear you’ve had a bad experience with wpDataTables, but rest assured that we will work on improving the plugin so this will be included in the future.

If you decide to give wpDataTables another chance, we’ll always be there for questions or issues you may run into.

    Kind regards!
