    Hi,

    I successfully installed BWPS and ran the basic security settings – no problem.

    I came to switch on notifications for file changes and was booted out of the site, was unable to log back in and the front end delivered a 404 page on the main url

    To fix the 404 and get back in I manually changed the BWPS folder name via ftp by adding .hold to the end.

    Having logged back in I then used the plugin manager to delete BWPS, checked via ftp it had gone and then reinstalled it.

    My problem is that it now won’t activate, I’m guessing that my renaming of the original folder has caused the issue but don’t where to start looking. I would like to know how to fix the issue, preferably without restoring the whole site.

    I do have a full back of the site prior to installing the original version.

    Hope you can help. Thanks
    Kate

  • I have also experienced this exact situation. I have also looked for a setting in the options file for this but I cannot locate anything. Is there a manual way in which to turn of “File Change” notifications so that the plug-in can be re-activated?

    I have had a look around and it looks like this plug-in adds a line at the beginning of the wp-config.php file:

    define( ‘BWPS_FILECHECK’, true );

    The plug-in actually completely destroyed my wp-config file. So I had to recreate from scratch. However, I noticed this line keeps being added when I try to reactivate the plug-in, even after deleting this line.

    Now restored my wp-config.
    The line was added back in to my wp-config.php file after reactivating the plugin.

    I deleted the line using my CPanel File Editor.
    Refreshed my dashboard.
    Plug-in still activated but Dashboard loading
    However, some option pages displaying blank pages.

    So, from the plug-ins page, I deactivated the plugin.
    Then Clicked delete and answered Yes to “Delete Files AND data”.
    I then re-installed the plug-in new.

    All working now.

    Please check your allocated memory in PHP before activating File check as the options page indicates.

    I hope this helps others.

    Cheers,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,

    I cleared my browser cookies and cache and this allowed me to reactivate BWPS.

    On doing so I was instantly booted out and got the 404 error again, so I accessed wp-config via ftp, stripped out the BWPS code

    define( ‘BWPS_FILECHECK’, true );

    This allowed me to log back in. I went into BWPS dashboard and unchecked “File Change Detection” in the “Detect” tab.

    I de-activated and then re-activated BWPS to be sure and all is working as it should be.

    Thanks v much

    Glad I could help. I was actually looking for a solution to the same problem when I came here.
    But after some digging I found this.

    So I guess we could mark this as resolved now correct?

    Cheers,
    E.
