• I have been trying to update my website which is hosted by nearly free speech. I have tried logging in to the site remotely through putty, and using the command line download, and update codes. Putty returns success and says it is up to date, but when I log into the site through the WordPress editor it is still running the old version. I am wondering if there are anyways to update it through the WordPress editor rather than having to dissect the remote server files which I did not set up and am not sure what exactly is there.

    Thanks for your help.

Try MANUAL updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old copies of files & folder on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.
If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.

How do you backup the site? I have tried installing applications but have not been successful, also cannot download the content folder from my remote web server through filezilla.

    Thanks for any help

I have and I am still confused on what do to. I tried to access my remote server with filezilla and I could not download the content folder. I also am unsure of how to install a plugin to back up the site.
