Unassigned Orders

Hello, most sales are unassigned. How can I detect the origin of the order?
Thanks

Hi @lparga,
Could you clarify what you mean by “most sales are unassigned”? Are you referring to the order source, payment method, or something else?
You can check the Order Notes in WooCommerce by going to WooCommerce > Orders, selecting an order, and looking at the notes section. This often includes details about the order.
Looking forward to your reply!
Hi @lparga,
Sorry for the earlier response. I just misunderstood the context of your question.
In WooCommerce Analytics, “Unassigned” orders are those where the order source data couldn’t be extracted, typically due to missing UTM tags. This is normal, and most stores will have some level of unassigned orders.
To improve order source attribution, first, ensure that Order Attribution Tracking is enabled. You can check this by going to WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Features > Order Attribution. If it’s not enabled, turning it on will allow WooCommerce to capture and store attribution data for new orders.
Second, verify that UTM parameters are correctly implemented in your marketing URLs. Properly structured UTM tags help WooCommerce track the origin of your orders more accurately. You can find more details on UTM tracking here: woocommerce.com.
Thanks for your response. The order attribution checkbox is indeed enabled, but I’m still seeing unassigned orders. Is there any other configuration I can use to detect the origin of these orders?
I have UTMs active in both my email marketing campaigns and ads, but more than 80% of the orders have unassigned origins.

At the moment the Order Attribution features exclusively uses UTM tags to detect the origin of the orders – you can read more about how the feature works here.

The Order Attribution feature uses last click attribution which 100% of the conversion credit to the last interaction before a customer lands on your site, so this could be a reason if the urls with the UTMs are not the ‘last’ thing they click before coming to your site.
