I am planning on using Dearflip for a book launch whereby visitors can read the book on a WordPress website in PDF. The file size of the PDF is 16MB. With a surge of traffic I am wanting to avoid the book loading slowly or hanging. I assume the PDF is hosted on Dearflip’s servers, or do I have that wrong? What can you tell me about the Dearflip setup to understand what I need to do to retain speed of page loads when traffic increases?

    Hi,

Pdf files are not hosted on dearflip server. Dearflip is a self hosted solution on your server. Server hosted solutions are costly like https://issuu.com/

Dearflip does support partial loading. So the pdfs can be loaded portion of size and the size could also be reduced.

If you can share the link to your flipbook page we can suggest what can be improved.

Plus you can use cdn to cache files of upto 50mb.

When I click “Send to Dearflip” after uploading a PDF, what exactly happens with the file then? Where does it go? Does Dearflip get a copy of a link to it?

    Hi,

“Send to DearFlip” is just taking the path url to the pdf file source textbox. The pdf stays where the wordpress uploads it.

    Hi again,

You wrote, “If you can share the link to your flipbook page we can suggest what can be improved.”

I have purchased the Pro version. Here is the link: https://thesistineunsealing.com/?page_id=153

Please advise what can be improved. Currently it takes 30+ seconds for the first page of the book to display. How to get down to under 5 seconds?

    Hi,

Your site is peculiar. Where is it hosted? I am getting 512kb download in 5-9s this is slow.
Can you try adding a CDN? Maybe the server is too busy with all the requests.

We tried your PDF on our server. Is this speed good enough?
https://wordpress.dearflip.com/lifeofmichelange00symo/ We will be deleting this file once the issue is resolved.

    Also try:
Global Setting-> PDF-> PDF Partial Loading Chunk Size -> 1024KB

    Thank you.

My site is hosted by Namecheap on their Stellar Plus plan. Changing the global setting made no difference. I can look at a CDN, and changing host.

Your site is definitely quicker, but still not as fast as I would like. The first time I loaded it from your site it took 15 seconds for the first page to display, so twice the speed of my site. That reduced to 11 seconds on the second go. Is what I experienced on your site the fastest I can expect by improving the hosting and adding a CDN?

NB I am located in NZ.

    Hi,

The speed is not the fastest.

In my device, second time loads within 6s in mobile. 5s in laptop. It takes 3s to render that page.

Regarding first time, without cache it is 7-8s in mobile. 5-6s in laptop.

Cdn helps with other files on sites, pdf is served directly from our server.

our latency is high around 300-500ms for pdfs so each request takes that toll. But we had to be realistic.

Try the same page on pagespeed check, like gtmetrix they will pull the page and load the flipbook too. See how long they take.

Thank you for your advice and effort. I will explore more.

Me again. Another question. The zoom feature does not make the image of the page any larger than full screen mode, which for books with smaller text is not big enough to be reader friendly. Is the zoom feature meant to allow magnification larger than full screen mode? I am using a Macbook Pro.

The zoom size is limited by texture size in Global settings. Since its a 3D plugin, bigger textures will take too much ram. So there had be a stable ground/size for such a generic plugin.

But the zoom function works very well on my PC and iPhone. I can zoom in two or three times the size of full screen with them. It is restricted to = full screen only on my Macbook Pro. Is that a bug?

Is the resolution of your pc screen and mac screen same? mac have bigger resolution. So even if you use 3200px height. It may be already near that size.

    also try your pdf at

in your mac. Is it still same?

The zoom to greater than fullscreen works fine on your site from my Macbook Pro. It only doesn’t work on my site, and only when using my Macbook Pro. Strange.
