    Hi,

(I’m starting a new thread as my last one was marked as resolved and I replied but it wasn’t appearing on the list of topics)

Is there a way to completely undo an update done to all products with the bulk CSV import?

I was going to upload all columns but I noticed excel had reformatted some of my product sizes to dates, so I thought I would just delete those columns I wasn’t changing to prevent errors and and upload it with a minority of data columns, thinking it would only update the columns which headers match and leave the others as they are.

We have 150 products with 2 attributes each, but by bulk updating all products with a csv which only had columns and data for 1 attribute, all 150 products now only have 1 attribute, the data for the other attribute seems to be gone, I can’t see them in the settings for each product.

Assuming this is the along the lines of how it would be done: I can probably get the product data again from yesterday’s website backup, but I need some guidance on how to access it and what to do with it please. Where is product data stored?

I can’t get our host to roll the whole website back to last night’s update as there was plenty of other work done on it today.

    Thanks,
    Tom

  • Hello @tomcarmichael2 ,

If I understand correctly, you can still have access to the old site in its original state. Is that right?

It’s important because without that you are unable to roll back to the information that you have already updated. The straight forward solution will be, getting the whole site backup from the original state. Install the backup in a separate WordPress installation. Export the products again and import with correct attributes.

In general, product information is saved in your database under the wp_posts table with post_type. Here is a more detailed instruction about this. Getting the information out of the database or editing each product can be confusing. You can take help from a professional database expert in this case.

    I hope the information helps.

    Thank you 🙂

    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. At first I was worried that other metadata linked to our products from other plugins could be lost with this method, but I tried it and it worked fine for me.

I have also learned from this not to delete columns when re-importing an export.

But the reason why I did that was because I have had a problem with excel reformatting parts of my CSV such as product size ‘7-11′ becoming ’07-Nov’.

The only way to prevent this that I have found is to go open the CSV a different way: open a blank excel document, go to Data > Get Data from CSV. Make any changes needed in power query if it’s reformatting columns incorrectly, it will format the entire column the way specified, not just individual cells.

Maybe there is an easier way? I’m not sure.

    Thank you,
    Tom

    Hello @tomcarmichael2 ,

It’s good to see that you have found a solution now.

About the dates being reformatted in CSV, you should be able to format the dates in the way you want. Here are more details – Format a date the way you want

    I hope this information helps.

    Thank you 🙂

    Hi Rashed,

Thanks for your response. I just wanted to clarify that in my last message, the cell contents ‘7-11’ meant t-shirt size 7 to 11 years old, and that was being reformatted to a date when it shouldn’t have been.

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hello @tomcarmichael2 ,

    I got your point.

Basically, this is an excel issue. It tries to convert any number that comes with a dash as a date. It looks like there is nothing we can do to prevent that. Here is a quick tip to show the value in the correct format – Prevent Excel from reformatting two numbers to a date and month

    Cheers 🙂
