• Hello,
I’ve been getting this error message on one of my client sites:
“Warning: An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with ww.wp.xz.cn or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums. (WordPress could not establish a secure connection to ww.wp.xz.cn. Please contact your server administrator.) in /home/helpi10/public_html/wp-includes/update.php on line 295”

The site itself is running slow and the admin panel is atrociously slow. I’ve taken a few of the suggested steps, reinstalling the WP files, etc with no avail.

The host says the problem is not on their end. Is there any solution here?

    Erica

  • Regarding that specific error, I would suspect a problem connecting from the server caused by:

    1. DNS Errors
    2. Firewall rule not allowing outgoing connections from the web server.

I would ask your host if there they are able to reach ww.wp.xz.cn from that server.

As for atrociously slow speed… I find the biggest culprit for this is usually an overloaded server. This can be a factor on shared hosting plans, especially the cheaper ones, in my experience.

Thanks for the quick reply Shawn!

I’m not too happy with their host.

Have also heard a suggestion that the curl library on the server is out of date, and may be having problems making a secure (SSL) connection to the ww.wp.xz.cn server. Might suggest that to the host and see if they can upgrade curl to the latest version.

Host says it’s not an issue on their end. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I’m out of suggestions at the moment. Anyone else?

Check settings general to make sure the WodPress url and site url are the same.
