I created a feed and trying to import it to merchant center.
But merchant center does not recognise the category which is displayd as:
Food, Beverages & Tobacco > CoffeeIt looks like some encoding problem?

Hi Dennis,
Could you tell us what message/notice you get from the Merchant center?
As you can understand, the google category is an important future and we do not have other people with errors about the categories. Please tell us exactly what is happening and what is wrong.
Auke.
Hi Auke,
Thanks for assisting me!Here is a screenshot.
Dennis, please send me the url of the feed so i can have a look at it.
Dennis,
I must admit i do not know what could be wrong here.
According to the manual of Google the category is correct.Could you please contact Google help and ask them what is wrong with it.
Google help service is very assisting in these matters. Please let me know the outcome of the investigation and contact with google.
Auke.
OK, I will get in touch with google. I’ll write again here with their answer.
Hi Auke,
I received feedback from Google. They’re saying the the system has trouble recognising the product categories, which might have something to do with the XML-formating. They are recommending that I try with category IDs instead, which are found on this page: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/160081
Can I do that with your plugin?
Hi Dennis,
How unfortunate.
You can not use the categories ID’s at this moment. We have to look in to this. It is a bit weird because it is working for everyone and correct according to the Google requirements.
Let’s try something though.
Every product (14) in your feed has the same category.
1. Download the feed with ftp.
2. Than find and replace the category string <![CDATA[ Food, Beverages & Tobacco > Coffee ]]> with Food, Beverages & Tobacco > Coffee
3. Save the file and upload the feed file with ftp and overwrite the old file.
4. Submit /refresh the feed in your Google Merchant center.
Let me know if that makes google accept the file
Plan B
The same again but now in step 2 you change the category string to:
<![CDATA[ Food, Beverages & Tobacco > Coffee ]]>
Please let me know what is working.
Auke.
Auke,
I found the error. The sub-category “Beverages” was missing.
I’m not sure why it was missing from the feed, but I tried re-adding the categories and now it works. The sub category is there and I get no errors π
Great you have found it Dennis!
I cannot recreate the missing subcategory Beverages in the feed manager. Could you tell me how you manage to do that and how you fixed it? This so we can can fix the issue in our next release.
I can see there are some other issues when trying to change a previous selected category.
We will fix that issue in a next release.Auke
I’m not sure how I was able to skip the subcategory. I have tried to recreate it but I can’t.
