Unknown Trigger Sending empty posts

    I have discovered a recent problem with BNFW. I am uncertain as to what is causing the problem but I have a guess.

    I have one active trigger that sends emails when a new post is published. Something is causing an empty post to be triggered. There is no post actually made to WP but the empty template is emailed to the users as it a post was published.

    I am not sure, but it seems to be triggered when a new user is added to the database or possibly edited. I am not using any of the known compatibility plugins. I have not been able to duplicate the issue but it has occurred twice.

    Hi @samdobrow,
    Thanks for your message.

    It sounds like a theme or plugin conflict to me that is hooking into the wp_insert_post action. If you’re posting from the front-end then it might also be the insert post action is being triggered for the wrong post status too.

    The strange thing is that nobody was doing any kind of post. I’m thinking it might have been a malware bot action trying to make a post but I have Wordfence to block malware.

    I cant match up any action on the Wordfence logs to the timestamps for the BNFW post trigger.

    Hi @samdobrow,
    That’s odd. I suppose it could be a log being generated my WordFence or perhaps a scheduled post causing an issue?

    My advice at this stage would be to test with all plugins disabled to see if you can replicate the issue with the bare-minimum of plugins required.

    I haven’t been able to replicate the condition that triggers the email; but I’m carefully watching it.
