Unread status not changing

    Hi, I have four replies on posts where I have assigned a new author. The topics now show as having new posts in them. If I open a post, the notification under my profile of the number of unread posts decreases as it should, but when I click up a level to close the post, the number goes back up again and the topic still shows it has unread posts.

    If I click on “Mark forum read” the number goes to 0 but when I refresh the page it is back to 4 with the new posts still showing flags. Any ideas what is happening here?

    Hi:

    If you’re using the back button on your browser, it will load the page from the browser’s cache which will show the prior count. If you click the browser’s refresh button it will reload the page from the server and show the correct count.

    Hi, I’m not using the back button. I have tried refreshing the page, and also logged in again on an incognito window and viewing and refreshing with the same result.

    I am using V 5. Would it be worth upgrading to 6?

    hmmmm…hard to tell what’s going on then. I’ve been unable to duplicate that behavior. The only time the number stays the same for me is when I use the back button and the browser loads the page from its cache.

    One reason it might be staying the same is that the page is being loaded from a cache on your server or cdn. Do you have a cache on the WP site or a server based cache? Or something like CloudFlare installed in front of the server? If so, are the Forum pages excluded?

    I have just tried again today and it now seems to be working fine – go figure…
