So yesterday I posted an blog post and everything was fine. Today I log in and I see this: http://imgur.com/vwjjr.jpg

The blog is still up and running fine, even the admin page seems functional (though I haven’t tried posting yet) but it does kind of make things difficult. Does anyone have any idea on what is wrong and how to fix this?

This bug is not specific to any one browser, however in Chrome instead of being able to log in like the others I get the following error: Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error.

I’m using Dreamhost and don’t anticipate the problem to be on their end. The only thing which has changed since yesterday when it was working, is that I installed Google Gears as a Firefox plugin, however I doubt this is the issue as the problem is not browser specific. Although I do have it currently disabled, just in case.

Cheers for any help or advice you can provide.

  • screenshots are of little use if you want help. A link to your site is far more useful.

The way your admin screen looks could be a symptom of a variety of things, most notably a hacked site….

The link to my blog is here: http://www.benjaminharlow.com/alloftheabove/

However the situation has elevated, now my entire site http://www.benjaminharlow.com seems to be down. It sounds like I’ve been hacked doesn’t it? Damnit. What can I do to make certain?

    check out your files.

Using ftp, or file manager if your host offers. Check out any php files.

Especially look at the timestamps and see if any files have changed recently

Open those files and look for gibberesh

    encrypted code, etc

Wait, Dreamhost just went down, so I think I’ll wait for them to come back up before I freak out.

So I suppose it must be the host? If so then I think I was a little quick to post, except I was viewing it all happen in real time so it was very confusing.

yup…wait for your host to be back up properly before trying to evaluate your own site!
