Thanks for reporting this issue with version 9.8.3.
This behavior is unusual – we don’t have other reports of menu or category problems with this update.
To help troubleshoot, can you answer the following, and also help us out with a system status report? (https://woocommerce.com/document/understanding-the-woocommerce-system-status-report/#system-status)
- Which theme are you using?
- Do you have any plugins that modify menus or taxonomies?
- Did you try disabling all plugins temporarily?
- Does the issue persist if you switch to a default theme?
The issue is likely a theme/plugin conflict rather than the core update itself. Glad you had a backup ready!

I will come back asap…
Hi there!
Thank you for providing the information. I would suggest running a conflict test by creating a staging site, so your live site will not be affected.
You can create a staging site using the following plugin: WP Staging. After that, deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce, activate the default theme like Storefront, and try updating WooCommerce to the latest version to see if the issue still occurs.
If you continue to experience the same issue, I’d like to understand your site properly. Please share with us the necessary information below for us to investigate the issue further:
- System Status Report which you can find via WooCommerce > Status
- Fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs.
Please use https://pastebin.com/ or https://gist.github.com/ and share a link to that paste in reply here. Once we have more information, we’ll be able to assist you further.
I have the same problem. How can I overcome this problem?
Hi @ugurgorgu,
I understand that you have a somewhat similar problem.
However, as per forum best practices, it is advised that you create a new thread so that we can address your issue(s) separately.
You can create a new thread here: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/plugin/woocommerce/#new-topic-0 and make sure to include as much information as you can.
Thanks for understanding!
We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – we’ll be here if and/or when you are ready to continue.
