    I acquired a site from a buddy through migration.

    I am running WordPress 5.8 and PHP 7.3.23, GoDaddy’s latest supported PHP version, with no Cloudflare integration.

    Around the time I installed the plugins WooCommerce and Smart Slider 3 and tampered with the OceanWP’s theme’s PHP to place the slider where I want it, the update (and sometimes publish) button almost never works.

    I can see residual WooCommerce files in my file manager even after deleting the plugin.

    I get errors like:

    Updating failed. You are probably offline.

    Something went wrong. Your change may not have been saved. Please try again. There is also a chance that you may need to manually fix and upload the file over FTP.

    503 Service Unavailable
    The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

    Google Chrome console errors included:

    Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 ()

    Failed to load resource: net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET

    GET 500

    Error: Request failed with status code 500
    at e.exports
    at e.exports
    at XMLHttpRequest.p.onreadystatechange
    at XMLHttpRequest.i

    POST net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET

    GET net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET

    GoDaddy support had no issue activating the button on my behalf, so the issue is clearly with me.

    I recently moved into a new apartment with bad wifi, so that may be the issue, and I want to try to find public wifi to test this theory on.

    The thing is that I was able to update and publish just fine when I first moved.

    Anyway, this is what I have tried:

    – Tried different browsers (incognito mode included)
    – Logged out and back into WordPress
    – Made my laptop forget the wifi and reconnected to it
    – Tried the Classic Editor plugin
    – Deleted the WooCommerce and Smart Slider 3 plugins
    – Deactivated all plugins and switched to the Twenty Twenty-One theme
    – Tried the above step with the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin too
    – Checked that my WordPress and site addresses are the same
    – Syntax checked .htaccess and some theme PHP files
    – Asked GoDaddy for help

    Still have not tried:

    – Reinstalling WordPress
    – Trying other wifi
    – Clearing cache and cookies
    – Disabling browser extensions and addons

    Also, Health Check & Troubleshooting told me that the following files are not found:
    /var/www/wp-config-sample.php
    /var/www/wp-admin/install.php

    During this time, I have only managed to activate the update and publish buttons a handful times.

    GoDaddy told me to try another wifi.

    If other wifi works, I still want to be able to work from home.

    Update: GoDaddy cleared my cache, which has solved the problem for now, but the problem was already relieved for some time before and then came back, so I need to give this fix some time before declaring it a permanent fix.

    Don’t hold back your wisdom on this topic just yet!

    The problem was fixed for about 24 hours before it came back.

    Maybe the cache clearance fix was a coincidence.

    This probably just has to do with bad wifi.

    I went to the mall where WordPress worked like a charm!

    I tried so many things to make my life work at home, but my simple initial hypothesis was right: it’s all in the wifi.

    Occam’s razor is a thing, guys.

    Hey @lebronicus I seem to have the same issue starting today. I have the same issues on my home wifi, but don’t have the issues on my cell data. Did you figure out a way to fix your wifi?
