Update deletes previous content
-
Hello,
I’ve used your plugin for a while now. The screenshot below shows how it looks on the website (URL listed at the bottom):
https://puu.sh/BWIsg/e8cb8f136f.png
I updated the plugin to version 4.0 today and after the update it lost all the content, meaning I would have had to recreate the warning from scratch.
Fortunately I was able to restore the previous version of the plugin from a backup, but going forward how can I update the plugin without losing the content?
Thanks,
MarkThe page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hey Mark (@benchmarkgraphics),
thanks for your report.
Normally it should transfer your old settings to the new ones in the Customizer.
Can you tell me a bit about your setitngs?
Which fields have you filled and how? (Maybe a little screenshot would be great).
Then I try to reproduce it and fix it directly in the next support release.
Best regards,
PatrickHello Patrick,
Thanks for getting back to me.
As I mentioned in my original post, I have had to restore the old version of the plugin, as I need it active on my clients’ website, but to help you out I temporarily updated the plugin [to the new version] again to show you the settings.
Below are screenshots of the previous version settings (Old settings), the dialogue box for on-page selection (On-page selection) – which no longer exists, and the new version settings (New settings), which as you can see are blank.
Old settings: https://puu.sh/BXdkG/af4c103514.png
On-page selection: https://puu.sh/BXdlA/de2d008143.png
New settings: https://puu.sh/BXdmO/2210d91e70.pngThe on-page dialogue box (On-page selection) is a real miss. It would require opening every page of the website to see which pages are selected, to use the new settings where you have to list the pages you want the warning to appear on.
I can’t even see ‘Dialog Title’ and ‘Dialog Message’ fields to find where my content would be, or the ‘Exit Text’ and ‘Enter Text’ buttons.
I understand you wanting to monetise the plugin by introducing a Pro version of the plugin, but I’d recommend you don’t do it at the expense of your existing, loyal user-base.
Your help to fix the issue would really be appreciated.
Thanks,
MarkHey Mark (@benchmarkgraphics),
thanks for your quick reply!
I think the most confusing part of the update is, that all the new settings are not part of the current settings page anymore.
All of your settings live now in the WordPress Customizer.
Take a look at this screen: https://ibb.co/jtbMXqI never wanted to make any of the existing features going premium, instead I like to enhance the current free version and only adding the specific WooCommerce options (like excluding products by age) to the premium version.
Selection:
Same goes for the selection. The default setting is “Whitelist” so if you want to display the box overall you don’t have to set a single setting.
The Pages/Posts/Categories selection is only for the ones, who like to decide specifically on which pages the age gate should displayed, but its all optional.
I really appreciate your feedback, cause it shows me that I definitively have to communicate this much clearer and has to make clear that styling and texts are absolutely not part of the premium version.
EDIT:
Now I have seen the screenshot for the on page selection! I totally forgot about the migration settings for this. I will add this to the migrator options for the next support release.-

Hi Patrick,
Again, thanks for replying so quickly.
But, you say my settings are in the Customizer – again I just updated temporarily to see what you mean, and although you are right the settings do exist, so does a lot of additional settings. All of which make the warning box look totally different from my previous one.
To amend it to look anything like what we had will take time. Time my client won’t be prepared to pay for (and why should they, they already payed for it to be created in the first place), or I can spend time on it for free! Are you in the habit of working for free? As I know I’m not, especially when it shouldn’t be necessary.
The ‘on-page’ selection will be a welcome return, thanks. But until the plugin is updated so that it works in the way it did, I won’t be updating it again. And certainly not installing it on any other client websites (some of which use WooCommerce, so could have benefitted from using the Pro version).
Thanks,
MarkHey Mark,
I totally agree with you.
My previous answer should not be an excuse for the missing migration. This is definitively my homework 😉
As far as I come up with a valid solution I will update this post here.
Have a great day,
PatrickHey Mark (@benchmarkgraphics),
I released version 4.0.1 a couple minutes ago.
I improved the current migration for:– headline and message
– button texts (exit / enter)I also have build a migration tool which runs on an upgrade to convert the current On-Page-Selection to the one in Settings->Passster Age Gate->Restrictions.
All previous posts and pages should now in the select fields and the mode goes to blacklist. So the effect is the same that before.
Since you modified your age gate based on the old HTML-classes, which no longer exists, I have build a small css snippet for you to achive a simliar look.

Best regards,
PatrickHi Patrick,
Thanks for your help, but the warning is only ok on one page. It’s still not right on any other page it appears, for example:
https://positivepennine.co.uk/ifa-services/investor-survey/
I’ll need to add the old version of the plugin soon, before my client sees the error, but hopefully you will see it and have a solution before.
Here is a screenshot in case I’ve had to go back to the previous version:

Thanks,
MarkHi Patrick,
I’ve had to go back to the previous version. The warning was appearing on every page of the website.
It also seemed to appear behind most of the page content. The screenshot below shows what I mean:
Hey Mark (@benchmarkgraphics),
sorry that you have to wait that long.
I released the version 4.0.3 a couple of minutes ago.
This includes the fix with the z-index issue you showed in the last screenshot.I’m still not sure why the age gate will be displayed on all the pages if the migration was done. After your last upgrade did you take a quick look under Settings->Passster Age Gate to check if the pages are converted correctly?
There should be all pages you selected in the previous version under the “Whitelist” option.
Best regards,
PatrickHi Patrick,
As you say your latest update has fixed the z-index issue, but now it defaults to your standard content:
See screenshot: https://puu.sh/C9y4e/56c2781db6.png
The below still doesn’t appear, so I would have to add which pages it should appear on manually:
https://puu.sh/BXdlA/de2d008143.png
For the 4th or 5th time I’ve had to roll back to the previous working version.
I wish I’d never used this plugin. The amount of time (which I won’t be paid for!) to fix this issue, really wasn’t worth the hassle.
Regards,
MarkPatrick,
I have had to update the plugin as your latest update states there is a security issue, but you still haven’t resolved the issues described above.
Since I’ve updated the popup defaults to this: https://puu.sh/D9Sx0/20e91b1e43.png
Even though YOU added the content in the customizer.
Please can you look into this problem as a matter of urgency.
Mark
