Hi Don!
I’m not sure what “WordPress Announcments mailing list” you might be referring to. Could you post a link to where you signed up?
Hi Bet,
When I edit my profile at ww.wp.xz.cn I can sign up for the WordPress Announcements list.
Is there another place? I would like to be informed about security releases etc.
Kind regards,
Viktor
I’m assuming you have checked to make sure your email is correct. 🙂
This page says the WordPress Announcements are “meant for major announcements regarding the WordPress project, like new releases.” These are going to only be major releases, maybe a few emails a year.
If you want to stay up on security issues, there are a few blogs you could get emails of posts on:
https://blog.sucuri.net/
http://www.wordfence.com/blog/
and others
For more info on WordPress releases and news, you might try something like:
http://wptavern.com/
(and there are others).
Hope this is helpful.
I received an email about the release of WordPress 4.2 on May 12th via the email list. The email is sent from Matt Mullenweg. Here’s what the email message looks like.
In case you missed it, Version 4.2 “Powell” of WordPress is out with a revamped Press This tool, making it easier to post and share content from your browser and from your phone. It also adds native support for a host of new characters out-of-the-box, including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean characters and everyone’s favorite emoji.
We also added theme switching to the customizer, a fancy new way to save time when updating plugins, and oEmbed support for Tumblr.com posts and Kickstarter campaigns.

And of course, it’s all free. There have been almost twelve million downloads already, so come join the party and click the button in your dashboard to upgrade.
Keep jammin’,

WordPress 4.2 is a major release which is why the email was sent out. I will say however, that I haven’t seen the email for all major releases as I think it’s forgotten about at times.
Thanks for the reply’s.
To be honest i’m a little disappointed in these official WP mailings. First: they are a little late. Second: not a word about security.
I will try other sources mentioned. Thanks!
