    Good day,

I hope that I am in the right place to ask my question and that ou will be able to help me. I have done a quick search of the forum but I can not seem to resolve my issue.
I can not seem to update my Virtue theme.
It states the following when trying to update:

An error occurred while updating Virtue: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions. error_log

What does this mean? How can I fix this?
    Please help!

Please excuse me because I am a complete novice and I do not have a lot of knowledge regarding websites etc.
That is also why I LOVE this theme from Kadence, It is really easy and really beautiful.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello,

This is likely something with your server, either it’s timing out or blocking the update from fully loading.

I suggest contacting your host to see if your max execution time and max upload size are restricting the theme update.

Thank you very much for your response, Kevin!
I am trying to find out if this might be the problem, my hosting company is not being extremely helpful either.
My max upload size is 128mb
and my PHP time limit is 5000 (seconds)
Does this look like it might be to small or to slow?
As I am saying I am a complete novice, please excuse my ignorance.

Thank you so much! Any help will be greatly appreciated.

No, those look fine It seems its an issue with your permissions then. You need to talk with your host about the inconsistent file permissions. Likely you just need to update those permissions.

If you didn’t edit permissions then it’s something on the server, could be related to some security setting. Either way any host can help set the file permissions back to what they should be for wordpress.

Thank you so much Ben! I appreciate your response.
My husband phoned and talked to our host today and inquired about our file permissions, apparently they changed the permissions on the folders “recursively”.
He also installed “All in One WP Security” plug-in, this also confirmed that my file permissions are the recommended permissions.

The theme still does not want to up-date?

Thank you again for your help.

ok, It doesn’t sound like they checked the file permissions in the theme itself which I would suspect is what was changed. How about this, can you activate another theme. and manually delete virtue. Then reinstall by going to themes > add new?

Thank you again so much for your reply and help, Ben!
I can try this, but before I do, will I loose all my “settings” and changes I made to the theme? Like my colours, slider-photos, Logo etc, my woocommerce shop?
I really love this theme so I will reinstall if it is necessary.

No, you will not lose any of your theme settings. Those are saved in your database.
