• I’m noticed a similar issue showing up on a few sites I manage. I am no longer receiving the “WordPress 6.7.2 is available! Please update now.” banner to notify me to update my site. I’m using the most recent version for reference.

When I go to Updates, the blue button that says “Update to version 6.7.2” is missing. All I have is a button that “Re-install version 6.7.2” even though my site isn’t updated from a previous version.

I’ve troubleshooted from every angle. Deactivated all plugins, themes, etc. Changed PHP versions. Turned AutoUpdate on and off. Looked through the database, etc.

I’ve also started with a fresh install and still have the same issue even without any new plugins or database entries. I can clone the site and put it on an entirely different domain and the issue is no longer there. However any WordPress install on that domain (including subdomains) I can replicate the issue.

Any thoughts on why this has been happening the past few months?

The update button is only visible if you are using a version prior to 6.7.2. According to your own information

I’m using the most recent version for reference.

you are using the latest 6.7.2, so you will not see the button. But you do see the button to re-install, which is correct.

My apologizes for the confusion. I meant to say I’m updating to the most recent version. I am still at 6.7.1 and there is a needed update. I am not getting the Update button but instead the button that says “Re-install version 6.7.2” even though version 6.7.1 is the current version.

Ok, now I understand. However, the button is definitely dependent on the version used. I think it will be 6.7.2.

Take a look at About at the top left under the WordPress logo. The current version is displayed there. If it is 6.7.1, then there is something wrong with the button and I would assume that the update has only been partially installed. I would then recommend that you perform a manual update as described here: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/documentation/article/updating-wordpress/#manual-update

Thanks for all the assistance on the matter.

I had already performed a manual update without success. I am absolutely stumped on this issue and it’s happening on multiple sites.

Side note (possibly related) I’m also noticing some the feature images (not all) are missing in the WordPress plugin repository when I click Add New Plugin. The code looks like this when there should be an image link at the source.

    <img src="" class="plugin-icon" alt""> == $0

This is also only happening on site where the update button is missing. It’s almost like tsome scripts, images, etc. aren’t loading on the dashboard. I am fine on memory limits, etc.

    Never seen this before.

FYI, figured out the issue. My hosting company (a well know one btw) adds a piece of code to the wp-config file for their WordPress management and AutoUpdate services. The code is causing these issues on sites.

    Thanks again for your assistance.

I do find this confusing though -the message should say ‘Install 6.7.2’ not ‘re-install’, as 6.7.2 has not been installed previously!

1st world problem I know, but it would make it friendlier and not make you stop and think!

@chargeup I am having this same issue. You indicated that you found the cause of the issue. Did you resolve the issue? I am trying to figure out how to go to 6.7.2 from 6.7.1 like I did in my staging environment. Thanks!

I spoke with our hosting service (WP Engine) and they were able to update me from 6.7.1 to 6.7.2 via a CLI. They indicated that I wasn’t seeing the option to update to 6.7.2 because their portal only shows the lastest version to update to. This doesn’t really match to what I saw, however, since I had the option to update to 6.7.2 in my non-production instance. For me, the bottom line is that they were able to update to the minor release for me. If I have a similar problem in the future, I will reach out to them right away.

The issue isn’t resolved for me unfortunately. Being said, my hosting company (not WP Engine, but another very well known one) adds code to the wp-config file to function with their WordPress auto-updates. If I remove that snippet of code everything works as intended on the dashboard.

The hosting company has owned the issue and are aware of it. They are still “working on it”.
