• Hello,

Did you update plugin files without updating the version number?

Wordfence gave me a warning that several files on my system are different from the WordPress repository (on multiple sites).

The changelog shows an update from 1 day ago (today is 21 May), but the version number is still the same as from the release back in March. So I have 1.9.2. version files from March installed while the repository has newer files with the same version number, hence the warning from WordFence.

Please release an actual update with increased version number when you update files in the repository.

    Thanks
    JP

    Hi @jpnl

We just contacted the support team regarding this, and they said that the update simply modified a couple of links and nothing else in the original plugin. However, they also mentioned that version 1.9.2.1 should be released later this or a next week.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may bring.

    Best Regards,
    Victor

Thanks for the reply. I know the changes, WordFence has an option to compare both files 😉

You shouldn’t change files in the repository without changing the version number to trigger an actual update, because no matter how big the change, even a single character change will trigger WordFence (and other security plugins) as it could mean that the website has been compromised.

    Thanks for understanding
    JP
