update wp theme and plugins issue

I’d like to update a wp theme and some plugins but it doesn’t work. I think I am using the correct data:
Hostname: http://ftp.xxxxx.lv/
FTP Username: xxxxx
FTP Password: xxxxxxxxxx
Connection Type: FTP (selected radio button)

Once I enter all the data, I got an error message saying: Failed to connect to FTP Server http://ftp.xxxxx.lv/:21

Am I missing something? Or there is other way to update the theme as well as plugins? Any help is welcome as I am a wp newbie.
