After updating the Canvas theme by Woothemes, my website disappeared and I got these two error messages instead. I am using a child theme for Canvas, but the update was for Canvas. Help please! Errors below –

    See if this works:
    – delete your canvas theme’s functions.php
    – replace it with a fresh (UNEDITED) copy from fresh download of this theme

Tara, I did as you suggested, but no change.

    – With ALL plugins deactivated, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fifteen theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue.

    – If you still having the issue, i suggest you contact the theme’s developers. Where did you download the theme from?

I can’t get to my dashboard to de-activate the plugins.

It was working fine this morning, UNTIL I updated the theme. Now I can only get the error messages when I try to access any of the pages on my site, including the login page.

I downloaded the theme from Woo Themes. It is the Canvas theme, and I am using a child theme called Woo Child. I thought the child theme would prevent any updates from affecting the website.

Do you think the child theme may have been compromised some way?

I really appreciate your quick response in helping me to resolve this. THANKS!!!

your best bet is to contact its developers. You’ll be more likely to find a good answer from them, for they have the access to its code. Forum volunteers are not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial theme or plugin is not working properly. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product. These forums are for free themes available in the WordPress theme directory at ww.wp.xz.cn/themes/. I submitted a ticket to Woothemes. Maybe they’ll contact me before much longer. Thanks again for trying to help me.

    you are welcome:

Meanwhile, try reinstalling the entire theme again from a fresh download. see if that fixes the issue. Delete the old copies of files & folder of the theme on your server before uploading the new ones.

    good luck!

    Thanks Tara!
If I delete the old theme, won’t that delete my website, causing me to start over from scratch?

    In you OP you said:

After updating the Canvas theme by Woothemes….

Just try re-updating. Or, contact the theme’s vendor and explain them the issue you are having with the theme.

    Thanks Tara.

One more question please, and I’ll stop bugging you with this.

I heard from the developer at Woothemes, and the problem with the update was on their end. He assured me it was fixed, and provided a link to download the repaired/updated theme.

My question is, do I delete the existing theme by accessing the files with FTP, and then re-installing the new updated and repaired theme. If I do this, will my website populate with all of the work, design, images, etc. like it was before? Am I correct in thinking all of my work is saved in WordPress, and should not be affected / deleted when I delete the theme and re-install it.

Whew!!! Okay, I know. That was more than a question. πŸ™‚ I’m just fearful of deleting the theme and losing my work.

    Thanks again!

Yes, that’s the safe way to go.

No. Because You are using a child heme, which will not get updated. So all your mods in the child theme will remain untouched.
