How did you originally do the customizations?

hanks for responding!–i went to “appearance” on the left-hand side of the dashboard, altered the “Stylesheet.css” and the “Visual Editor Stylesheet (editor-style.css)” of the theme I’m using…
Oh, and then your theme was updated, right?
Theme updates completely replace files, and you had modified the files directly, so those modified files were replaced with the newest version of the theme’s unmodified files.
Do you have a backup you can restore from? If not, I’m afraid those changes are gone, though you might want to ask your hosting provider if they have a backup.
For theme modifications, we recommend creating a child theme, which is basically just the changed files of a parent theme, so the parent theme can be updated without affecting what’s in your child theme. Here are some guides on that:

I also recommend keeping regular backups: https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/WordPress_Backups
