Updating Abandoned Plugins

    There is a particular wordpress plugin that many developers use, which recently has become inundated with deprecated functions.

    The plugin author seems to have abandoned it, not updating in over 3 years.

    Since it’s an easy fix we’d like to clone the plugin, make the required changes, and then submit back to the repo so others can use as well.

    Is this acceptable practice?
