This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Thank you for this, but I’m not having much luck. I disabled all the pluggins, and I tried to change the theme to one of the twenties. (Does that mess up the site when you change the theme? When I put it back the main menu changed to the top menu. I think I fixed it.) I’m really a newbie. It still says “updated failed” but I clicked on the “HealthCheck” and a zip file downloaded to my computer do I upload it to my wordpress as a pluggin now? If so, do I upload the zip file or something from the decompressed folder?

Thanks for any information you can give me. Right now, I’m not real fond of WordPress.

Did y ou use the “troubleshooting” tab on health check as suggested? If that didn’t help, please copy/paste the output of the “debug” tab.
