• Hi,

Haven’t updated my site’s wordpress since late 2011 (3.2, I think it was) and today tried to update it automatically to the latest (4.1.1).
    Installed plugins:
    – Akismet
    – Google Analitycator
    – Google Calendar Events
    – RSS Poster
    – SI Captcha For WordPress
    – Sociable
    – W3 Total Cache
    – WP DB Backup
    – WP FB Fanbox
    – WP Spamfree
    – WP Touch

Update failed. Symptoms: accessing the site would bring out the message “site undergoing update, please come by in a few minutes” (or similar).

Removed .maintenance file and tried updating manually following WordPress instructions and the result is blank screens all around (sample: http://www.connexionbizarre.net/wp-admin/).

Tried deactivating the plugins folder but nothing. I get:
“W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home/cenobytes/connexion/HTML/wp-content/advanced-cache.php.”

“Removed” all the W3 Total Cache files from wp-content. And we’re back to blank screen.

    Any sugestions?

  • Hi,

What if you simply download the latest version of WordPress and just use the database from your old website? It might solve your problem, because I don’t think there are so significant changes in database architecture between the versions.

That’s what I will try doing tomorrow but doing the whole thing from scratch, purging the database and replacing it with the latest backup I have. Just in case.
