I installed UpdraftPlus tan a backup,
this error message was in the code
S3 Error: Failed to create bucket ashar-art-files.
however i recieved about 18 emails 1 or 2 every five mins or so. I have now had to deactivate the plugin
whats to do?

Can you include one or more of those emails?
The error’s most likely cause is that your entered S3 access credentials are wrong.

There’s no problem with long copy-and-pastes; the contents are meaningful to me. Best to enclose them within backticks as per the note beneath the box for typing in your contents. Then they format more nicely.

It does email you the error every 5 minutes, up to 10 times. I’ll have to think how to address that; there’s one email from each time it attempts to resume the failed backup run, up to 10 times (after which it gives up). On the one hand, it’s annoying to have so many emails; on the other, people like to know when something is wrong or receive the email when it eventually works. As I say, I will chew over what algorithm would be best to balance out that.
However, the error that these logs indicate is as I mentioned; your Amazon S3 login fails. You have incorrect details (API key and API secret, and enter a bucket name that either belongs to your account or does not exist at all (globally – i.e. no other S3 user has it)). I will consider adding a “check details” button to the plugin to make this easier, but in your case you just need to enter the right details to get it to work.

i have just installed the updraft plus backup plugin and clicked the final i agree button prematurely. anyway, i would like to know why you need access and management rights to ALL my files and spreadsheets on google drive, in order for my website to be backed up? I would actually prefer not to have given you this permission, so will need to consider if I should revoke it once i know why you need access

Because, as far as I know, Google Drive doesn’t allow more fine-grained access. You can use Dropbox or Amazon S3 if you want more restrictive access, as they support stronger segregation.
However, can I point out that if the real answer was ‘because I secretly syphon all your data away to a foreign government’, then I would not be very likely to answer honestly, so it’s rather a pointless question… 🙂

David, very sad about the lack of donations in relation to the successful amount of downloads. Have you considered adding certain features to allow people to upgrade for $10-$20. In my case I will always go with the upgrade for the little extra. I feel it covers me for the donation. Just a thought :> Great word/support.

2nd. How do I have the backup go into the Dropbox Folder I have created inside Apps-Updraft Plus?
3rd I want to create a folder for each site I have inside the Updraft Plus folder and have all the backup files for each site go to their designated folder. I have no idea how I can do this?

1. You’ll need a copy of the Dropbox Folders add-on for each site that you want to put the backup into a separate folder for. (On the sites that you don’t buy the add-on, they just go into the default folder). If you have more than a couple of sites, you’ll find it a better deal to buy UpdraftPlus Premium, which has an unlimited deal, and includes every other add-on as well.
Basically, our thinking is that someone with 1 or 2 sites will be happy to either store their backups together, or pay $10 to buy an add-on. If they’re getting into 3-4 sites, then they are either a web developer or someone spending a lot of time in the WordPress ecosystem and they’ll be interested in UpdraftPlus Premium.
2 & 3. These seem to be the same question? Anyway – this is exactly what the “Dropbox Folders add-on” does.

I have set up a folder: apps/UpdraftPlus/mysite1
When I do a backup it does not go into the designated folder it goes into the apps/UpdraftPlus Folder. All I’m after are instructions on how to have the backup files go directly into the designated folder without me having to go in and move them?
I should then be able to set up folders for additional sites once I buy more apps. I’m only looking at doing this for 4 sites.Hi Pazzo64,
