Can only add my main site to UpdraftCentral, but when I try to initiate a back up it just times out. “There was an error in contacting the remote site. The request did not complete in a reasonable amount of time. You should check that the remote site is online, is not firewalled, has remote control enabled, and that no security module is blocking the access. Then, check the logs on the remote site.”

I try to add my second site and I get a failure: “A key was created, but the attempt to register it with https://commmongoods.ltd/ was unsuccessful. You can try again, or try using the alternative connection method if the problem persists. For more information visit https://updraftplus.com/troubleshooting-updraftcentral-connection-issues/ cURL error 6: Could not resolve host: commmongoods.ltd (http_request_failed)”

Already UpdraftCentral looks like it doesn’t really show much information on its interface–if it won’t connect or backup, how much use is it?

    Hi,

In the case of the first, the next steps to perform are those given in the message – please then let us know your findings.

Concerning the second, it looks like you mis-typed the website address, introducing an unwanted third m in “commmongoods.ltd”. No such host as that exists.

#1: It actually DID start a backup, even though it ALSO threw up a “timeout” error window (Don’t know what happened there?). Since the UpdraftCentral dashboard page doesn’t show any feedback indicators, I didn’t know this until I looked at the settings in WordPress and checked the files in my Dropbox account (sorta defeats the purpose of having a “dashboard”).

#2: Thanks for catching my typo–I had retyped and reattached that site over and over–First using the child WordPress address [oops!-wrong!], then the parent WordPress install address [is it this?], then the parent UpdraftCentral dashboard page address [which is the language your instructions use]… none of which works. Well, it registers correctly, but I just get communication errors trying to backup. I even tried the “Use the alternative method for making a connection.” Nothing. Nothing should be preventing this. What’s frustrating is I DID have this set up in the beginning and it worked once. Who knows why it won’t work now?

So the only site I have correctly working in UpdraftCentral is the original home site, which isn’t remote at all. Plus I see more feedback doing a backup right from settings. So it seems UpdraftCentral works less than just initiating backups from within each site, or am I missing something? 🤷🏻‍♂️

If the backup is launching then you might just need to increase the time out. To do this look for a small grey cog in the top right of your screen. Press it and a menu should appear, increase the timeout from the default of 30
