UpdraftPlus install and review
-
Having messed around with backWPup and been unable to make it work or figure out the errors, I installed the plugin UpdraftPlus. It was a different experience because the installation followed the help files to a great extent.
My only gripe was that because I had wanted to use Google Drive as my backup location, the instructions became slightly confused. The API access for Google Drive was already displaying the new cloud console and I could not follow the instructions. (I respectfully suggest that the developer considers adjusting the help instruction set to include the new cloud console too)
Once I had found the older API console, creating the necessary Google Drive Client ID was simplicity itself. The folder ID and client secret were just as simple. The authentication process was applied without any faults. I then created my first site backup. I feel much safer now. My first WP site was taken down by damaging attacks which I was too stupid to prevent. The loss of data was crippling and represented a huge amount of effort to assemble it.
My working site save was a great relief. the plugin works as expected and although I am not a techie and I feel easily overwhelmed by code and arcane commands, I was able to set up my own backup system within minutes (no more than 5) with UpdraftPlus.
I highly recommend the plugin to anyone requiring a free backup solution. This newbie found it child’s play to set up and use. A very well deserved five stars and my thanks to the developers. I am using a Mac running OS X 10.9.1
