UpdraftPlus running multiple backups
-
Running Updraft Plus and had no issues. Then today, we have had 30+ emails come through, each with a successful backup on … and it still seems to be running. I can’t see how to stop it and there’s nothing I can see that’s causing it.
So HELP!!! At this rate all our backup space will be used up in no time! The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

This kind of behaviour is normally associated with extra schedules in the options table. We see this often in multi sites in particular (I realise yours is not a multi site). If needs be I can give you sql statement or instructions on how to remove it (it sounds like it’s resolved anyway now).
Thanks so much … As mentioned, I have now deleted the staging copy of the site, so let’s see if this recurrs again … if it does I’ll post the logs etc as before …
Thanks for the help!Hi there. Updraft has started taking multiple backups today again – Sunday 25th Jan 2026.
This started at 14:08 and is still continuing at 14:16 with 12 backup emails received so far.
The Log is here as of 14:17: https://pastebin.com/khuG1kBG
Here’s a screenshot of all the backups as well:
https://snipboard.io/QAzoUZ.jpg
I’m assuming it will carry on for an hour and then stop which is what it has done before … I will post again when it does stop to confirm how many it did this time.
As mentioned above, I deleted the additional STAGING Database so that should not be there … so any other ideas as to why this is happening?
Thanks – DavidHere’s a snip of the CRON events currently taking place: https://snipboard.io/gz8nRU.jpg
It includes the Updraft one but says it was once and 20 mins ago … but it’s now taken 31 backups of the database (I have had 31 emails as of 14:31).
This suggests to me that Updraft is initiated once, but for some reason is looping and taking multiple backups – is it correctly identifying that the previous backup was successful? It feels like it’s just trying again and again …I checked the Google Drive where the backups are placed and there are indeed multiple files, one for each backup … currently at 14:37 there are 14 saved files there covering 1426 to 1437 … I *think* it might be deleting an older one each time …
Looks like it stopped at 15:08 with 82 emails received in the hour, and I presume 82 backups taken in the hour …
The last 15 show on the Updraft dash (I have it set to keep the last 14 backup files only) and also there are only the last 14 on the Google Drive.
Here’s the logfile as at around 15:28 … https://pastebin.com/Vg0SDw2h
This only seems to show the last one at 15:08 …You have an issue with your site scheduler.
Can yoU add the following the wp-config:
define(‘ALTERNATE_WP_CRON’, true);
After 48 hours can you take another screenshot of your site scheduler (like you did before using the WP Crontrol?)
Thanks! I have done that. I will pop a screenshot of the Crontrol tomorrow morning …
And … no issues at all with the backups on Mon and Tues – just one taken each time as expected.-

Hi there. I wasn’t sure what you wanted a snip of …
So here’s one filtered on UPDRAFT and it looks the same as before to me:

And here’s more which is the whole list:

https://snipboard.io/UyoC0d.jpgHi,
It looks like your Cron Jobs are all running normally now.
So after a few months of working fine, the daily backup has started repeating again today (Monday 20 April). Nothing has been changed on our side, and yet we have muliple emails arriving – 2-3 a minute – all confirming that the backup is fine.
I’ll take the same grabs as before and post them here:
LOG: https://pastebin.com/F0VT4bmq
SNIP OF THE CONTROL BOARD: https://snipboard.io/C47OXh.jpg
SNIP OF THE LATEST EMAIL (15:23): https://snipboard.io/CigsTP.jpg
If you need to see anything else then please shout … as before I’ve no idea why this is happening!
We have no other Databases present at this time …Thanks — David
