We run a hobby website and Tobias helped me a few years ago.

While running TablePress v1 – Tobias’s suggestion was we run download the Responsive Tables add-on.

We have 3 post that “push TablePress to the limits but it still works” These are huge tables where we have collated historical sugar cane plantation records that are used a lot by researchers / genealogist.

With the update of Table press to v2 we have lost the ability to search and the responsive tables. Is there any way around this or is the only option to fix to purchase a Pro Licences?

    Barbados Almanacs: Plantations & Sugar-Works 1848 – 1871
    /barbados-almanacs-sugar-works-1848-1871/
4,023 rows of data in the table

Ronnie Hughes: Barbadian Sugar Plantations Index 1640 – 1846
    /ronnie-hughes-barbados-plantation-index-1630-1846/
    3,702 rows of data

    Handbook of Barbados: Plantations & Sugar-Works 1912 – 1924
    /plantations-and-sugar-works-in-barbados-1912-14-1924/
nearly 1,500 rows of data in the table

Hope Tobias can point us in the right direction

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

The issue that you are seeing is unrelated to the update to TablePress 2.x or the premium license plans.

Instead, this is caused by how the jQuery JavaScript library is being loaded on the site. Presumably, some optimization or caching plugin is changing the loading type of that JS file to “deferred”, which however causes many conflicts.

Therefore, please find the setting in your optimization or caching plugin that adds the defer attribute to JavaScript files, and turn that off. After that, these features should be working fine again 🙂

That said, the TablePress Max plan might indeed be a good option for your site, to enhance the loading and speed of the tables. For large tables like yours, the “Advanced Loading” and the “Server-side Processing” feature modules can really bring nice benefits. In addition, the integration and configuration of the Responsive Tables features will be much easier.

    Tobias

    Many thanks Tobias

I use SiteGround optimization with site. I note they have a exclude deferred JS but I cannot see one related to TablesPress so will turn off completely until I hear back.

One final question with v2 do I leave the v1.8 responsive tables add on active?

Will look at upgrading to v2 pro

I got it working by adding these 3 to the be excluded from the JS defer list:

    Hi,

yes, that seems to be the section where you can configure this.

You will definitely have to include the two files related to jQuery in the exclusion list as well!

One final question with v2 do I leave the v1.8 responsive tables add on active?

Yes, with the Free version of TablePress 2.0, you can continue using the TablePress Responsive Tables Extension 1.8. If you decide to upgrade to TablePress Pro or Max, you won’t need that anymore, as its features have been integrated into the two premium versions, with enhancements and a direct integration into the user interface. That way, you can configure responsiveness directly on a table’s “Edit” screen without having to deal with Shortcode parameters, which can be error-prone.

Will look at upgrading to v2 pro

Cool! Let me know if there are any questions! For your use case (with those very large tables), the TablePress Max plan will be the most suitable, as it brings those mentioned feature modules for faster loading of the large tables on the frontend of the site.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
