• I get this error when trying to upgrade or even add new plug-ins

ERROR: There was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct.

It ask for FTP info and the credentials I added are correct. I even went to my prior site that was working as where I was able to upgrade and download plug-ins before, but now I can not. No idea just what has changed. I also see this same issue that thousands of other shave in trying to upload media
Unable to create directory /mysite/wp-content/uploads. Is its parent directory writable by the server? I am not seeing any fix for this yet unless it is in 3.8.2 that I can not seem to get upgraded to.

  • There’s no fix that WordPres can make because this is a file permissions error on the server. WordPress has no contorl over that, and when permissions are set as they are in your cae, WordPress can’t change them.

You need to either change the permissions on the /wp-content/ folder and it’s sub-folders to allow writing, or get your hosting company to do that if you don’t know how. That’s the only solution for this issue.

What I have found is I created the upload directory (wp-content/uploads)
Set the new uploads directory permission to 777
Set the wp-content directory to permission 777
Set the public_html directory permission to 777
    Upload a photo
Then reset all three back to 755

    Now it works

It seems that the public_html was at 755 but it had to be 777 and then change back, weird!

Found the issue about connecting or upgrading, No idea what has changed but I found an answer from a user from 5 years ago… I had to not use my real host name, I had to put in localhost instead and then all is well with the world.
